Intensive Care Nurse - ICU Nurse

Facilitates effective implementation of the Trauma Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) process. o Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to provide optimal care for the trauma patient in the care continuum of pre-hospital through rehabilitation. o Identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care, process, or system-related issues. o Performs concurrent and retrospective review of the medical records utilizing established trauma guidelines and indicators. o Identifies opportunities for improvement in the care of the trauma patient through concurrent patient rounds, retrospective review, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and interactions with healthcare providers, ancillary staff, patients, and the patient's family/caregiver(s). o Participates in PIPS teams initiated as a response to significant patient care trends and trauma systems issues providing barriers to optimal patient care. o Prepares a patient care summary for Trauma Peer Review or Trauma Systems Review. o Coordinates and supports the process for peer or systems review and documents issues, actions, outcomes, and loop closure in the trauma registry. o Tracks all care and systems issues through loop closure and ongoing monitoring. o Maintains appropriate documentation required for Level ll verification by the ACS Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient. o Participates in research projects as requested by the trauma medical director and/or trauma program director through data abstraction, data analysis, data validation, and report-writing o Provides clinical expertise and collaborates with physicians, nurses, pre-hospital providers, specialty services, ancillary services, administration, and agencies within the trauma service area to facilitate optimal care of the trauma patient. o Provides feedback to health care providers from EMS and regional hospitals on patient care issues, outcomes, and system opportunities for improvement. o Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of trauma guidelines, protocols, and indicators. o Collaborates with the TMD and TPD in the review and appropriateness of clinical indictors. o Participates in trauma related educational opportunities. o Collaborates with the trauma registrar in the review of registry software to support the PIPS process, provide required reports, and support research activities. o Supports the trauma registrar to maintain a concurrent trauma registry - data entry within 60 days of discharge.

Required Qualifications

o A minimum of 3 years' experience in acute care nursing as a RN specifically within the ED or ICU with trauma patient experience o A minimum of 1 years' experience in quality management with demonstrated conceptual knowledge of performance improvement/patient safety, statistical analysis, accreditation and licensing processes preferred

Preferred Qualifications

o Previous experience w/ Kaiser Permanente preferred. o Master's degree preferred preferred. o Strong problem solving, project management, group facilitation and teamwork skills o Demonstrated ability to assess or evaluate patient medical records as it relates to quality of care and systems analysis for the trauma patient Supervisory experience preferred o Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories o Must be PC literate o Microsoft Office applications preferred o Valid CA driver's license with personal means of transportation preferred. o Additional certification in trauma registry (CSTR) and AIS severity coding (CAISS); if no trauma registry experience, employee will sit for both exams after 2 years' experience in the role. o Additional working knowledge and/or experience with trauma verification/designation survey process, trauma center organization, and trauma research is preferred. o TNCC, ENPC, ATLS, ATCN, CEN CCRN, AIS, TRC (Trauma Registrar Certification, CPHQ (Certified Professional Healthcare Quality o A minimum of 3 years' experience in acute care nursing as a RN specifically within the ED or ICU with trauma patient experience o A minimum of 1 years' experience in quality management with demonstrated conceptual knowledge of performance improvement/patient safety, statistical analysis, accreditation and licensing processes preferred
